How does a bet work on Ktkarena?

TL;DR

On Ktkarena, you don't bet against the house. You bet against other people who take a different outcome of the same event. The winner takes everything, minus our commission (1.5% to 5% depending on your stake tier). No rigged odds, no bookmaker. Just people and an event whose outcome can be verified.

The principle: opposing positions, one true outcome

On Ktkarena, every event offers mutually exclusive outcomes: only one of them will happen. Real Madrid wins or Barcelona wins. The election is won by one of the candidates running. Bitcoin breaks 100K dollars by the end of August, or it doesn't.

An event carries between two and eight outcomes, depending on what there is to settle. A match: two. A five-candidate primary: five. The number of outcomes and their exact labels are shown on the event, before you stake.

When you bet, you pick an outcome. Someone, somewhere in Africa or elsewhere, bets on a different one. The winner takes the opposing stakes, minus our commission.

That's P2P betting: people facing off over a question whose answer will be verified.

Ktkarena's role: we're not the house

You may know the traditional bookmakers. Bet365, 1xBet, Premier Bet. These platforms take your bet, they set the odds, and their business model works when you lose. The "house" wins when you lose.

Ktkarena doesn't work that way. We never take a position on an outcome. We're just the referee who finds you a counterparty and secures your KTK while the event plays out.

Our business model is the commission we take on every resolved bet. 1.5% if you're on the Institutional tier, 5% if you're starting out on the Discovery tier. The more you stake, the less we take. And whether you win or lose, we take the same amount. Learn more about the commission.

What happens when you confirm a bet

Here's the complete mechanism, step by step:

  1. You pick an event (a match, an election, a crypto price…).
  2. You pick your outcome from those the event offers.
  3. You pick your stake tier (Discovery, Standard, Premium, Elite or Institutional).
  4. You pick the exact amount in KTK, within the tier's limits.
  5. You confirm. Your KTK immediately leaves your wallet and goes into escrow (a secure vault managed by the platform).
  6. The Cascade algorithm looks for a counterparty on a different outcome, on the same tier as you. On average, one is found in 3 seconds.
  7. You get a notification: your bet is matched. From then on, both stakes are locked in escrow.
  8. The event plays out. You wait.
  9. The result is confirmed (via a verifiable external source like a sports API, or by our team for events with no automatic source).
  10. The winner receives the KTK from both stakes, minus our commission. The loser receives nothing.

All of this happens without you needing to understand the technical details. But it's important that you know what's going on behind the scenes.

Matching happens in two phases. Phase 1 - Live matching: when you place your bet, an internal cascade immediately tries to find you an opponent (within your tier → inter-tier → aggregation). If nothing is found, a matching loop keeps searching in the background throughout the event. Phase 2 - Pool phase: a few minutes before closing, unmatched residuals are gathered into a mutualized pool. Depending on your preferences, you enter the pool or you are refunded in full. Why this is different from a traditional bookmaker

Three fundamental differences:

1. You bet against a person. Not against an algorithm that calculates odds to make the average player lose. When you win, it's because another person staked and lost. Not because the house "decided" you'd win.

2. No rigged odds. By default, every bet is at 2.0 odds - you stake X, you win 2X minus the commission. On traditional bookmakers, odds are calculated to guarantee them a margin. Learn more about odds.

3. Your KTK is in escrow. Until the event is resolved, neither you nor your opponent can touch the pot. The platform guarantees a fair release to the winner. That's what makes P2P possible.

Going further. If you've never bet before, take the time to read the guide to placing your first bet. It's the logical next step.
