How to check whether an update is available
On Android (Google Play):
- Open Google Play Store.
- Tap your profile avatar at the top right.
- Choose "Manage apps & device".
- If an update is available for Ktkarena, you'll see it in the "Updates available" section.
- Tap "Update".
On iPhone (App Store):
- Open the App Store.
- Tap your avatar at the top right.
- Scroll down to see the "Available updates" section.
- If Ktkarena is listed, tap "Update".
Directly from the Ktkarena app:
When a new version is available, we display a banner at the top of the app: "New version available. Update →". Tap it, and you're redirected to the Play Store/App Store.
Enabling automatic updates
This is our strong recommendation: enable auto updates so you never have to think about it.
On Android:
- Google Play Store → your avatar → Settings.
- Network preferences → Auto-update apps.
- Choose "Over any network" or "Over Wi-Fi only" (to save your mobile data).
On iPhone:
- Settings → App Store.
- Enable "App Updates".
With these options enabled, Ktkarena (and your other apps) update automatically in the background when a new version is published.
What updates contain
We publish updates about every 2 weeks (sometimes more, sometimes less depending on needs). Here's what they typically contain:
1. Bug fixes.
Identified bugs (by users or our team) get fixed. For example: "The arena chat would sometimes freeze on very high-traffic events. Fixed."
2. Performance optimizations.
Improvements to speed, battery consumption, and smoothness. Especially for less powerful phones.
3. New features.
New options in prediction mode, new themes, new badges, etc. Big features are announced in a dedicated notification.
4. Security updates.
Fixes for identified vulnerabilities. This is the most critical category. See the section below.
5. Interface improvements.
Small visual tweaks, fonts, animations.
Each update comes with release notes that you can read on the Play Store/App Store before updating. That lets you know what's changing.
Mandatory security updates
Some updates are mandatory: you can no longer use the app without installing them.
Why: if we detect a critical vulnerability (for example, a flaw that could allow an attacker to steal KTK), we have to force the update to protect all users.
How it works:
- You open the app.
- Instead of the usual screen, you see a message: "A security update is available. You must update to continue using Ktkarena."
- An "Update now" button redirects you to the Play Store/App Store.
- Once the update is done, you can relaunch the app normally.
You can't decline. It's for your security and that of the whole community. We try to keep these mandatory updates very rare (fewer than 2 per year on average).
If you don't have access to the Play Store/App Store right away: you can temporarily use the web version at ktkarena.com, which is always automatically up to date.
