Reading time: 3 min Updated May 22, 2026 3,432 people found this article helpful
TL;DR

You can send private messages to any user (except those who have disabled DMs). Encrypted conversation between you and the recipient. No group DMs - 1-on-1 only. You can block a user from the DM. Limit of 50 new conversations per day to prevent spam.

How to send a private message

Several ways to start a private conversation:

Method 1 - From a profile.

  1. Tap a user's handle (chat, leaderboard, league).
  2. On their profile, tap "Send a message".
  3. Write your message and send.

Method 2 - From the event chat.

  1. Tap a user's handle in the chat.
  2. Tap "Private message".
  3. You're taken to a private conversation with them.

Method 3 - From the Social → Messages tab.

  1. Go to Social → Messages.
  2. Tap "New conversation".
  3. Type the handle or search in your contacts/followers.
  4. Start the conversation.

Once the conversation is started, it appears in Messages on both sides. You can come back to it at any time.

Encryption and privacy

Private messages on Ktkarena are encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) between your device and our servers, and stored encrypted (AES-256) server-side.

That means:

  • Nobody can intercept your messages between you and our servers.
  • Messages are protected against a database leak.

But be aware:

  • Our technical team can technically read your messages in the event of a legal investigation (court order, investigation into major fraud). It's not end-to-end encryption like Signal or WhatsApp.
  • Our admins never look at DMs without a documented legitimate reason.
  • DMs reported by a user can be viewed by moderators to handle the report.

If you want real confidentiality (for example to discuss sensitive information), use Signal or another E2E app for true private talks, and keep Ktkarena DMs for betting/prediction discussions.

Disabling incoming DMs

You can disable incoming DMs so you don't receive messages from people you don't follow.

  1. Go to Profile → Privacy → Private messages.
  2. Choose your DM level:
    • Open (default): anyone can send you a message.
    • People you follow: only users you follow can send you a DM.
    • Nobody: no incoming DMs. Only your existing conversations remain accessible.

Use cases:

  • Public figure or top of the leaderboard: switch to "People you follow" to filter out strangers.
  • Private preference: switch to "Nobody" if you use Ktkarena only to bet, without social interaction.

You can change these settings at any time.

Limits and rules

Limits:

  • 50 new conversations per day maximum (anti-spam). Beyond that, new DMs are blocked until the next day.
  • 2,000 messages per day maximum in your existing conversations (anti-flood). Beyond that, you're muted for 1 hour.
  • No attachments (images, files). Text and emojis only.

Rules:

  • Same rules as the event chat: no insults, harassment, spam.
  • Reporting possible: 3 dots on a message → "Report". Moderation reviews within 24 hours.
  • Blocking possible: a blocked user can no longer send you DMs. Reporting or blocking.

Important. Never share your sensitive information (password, 2FA code, recovery codes) in a DM. No legitimate admin or user will ever ask for them. If someone asks, it's phishing. Recognizing phishing attempts.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

No. DMs are strictly 1-on-1 between you and the recipient. Nobody else sees them.

Yes, within 5 minutes of sending. Long-press the message → "Delete". After 5 minutes, the message stays (but you can delete it on your side only - it remains on the recipient's side).

Not yet. All messages stay in the history until manually deleted or the account is deleted. Ephemeral messages are on our radar for the future.
