What the alert means
At the top of the challenge sheet, the “Device security” banner says: “Device security compromised (root/jailbreak detected). For your safety, financial operations are disabled.” Its “Learn more” link opens the French version of this article.
Root means modifying the system of an Android phone to get full access, beyond the restrictions set by the manufacturer. The banner appears when the app finds a sign of root or of another kind of modification (see How the app detects it).
What the app blocks
When the check finds such a sign:
- The challenge sheet. The one where you set your stake before confirming, opened from an event page, or from a private conversation when you challenge a friend there: its “Confirm” button stays disabled.
- Buying KTK, depositing, withdrawing. These payments aren't open in the app yet; the code of the wallet's Buy, Deposit and Withdraw screens already contains the same check.
Why this block
A phone with a modified system presents a security risk: money operations could be compromised on it. For your safety, the app therefore blocks the operations listed above as long as the modification is detected.
How the app detects it
The check runs on the phone itself, when the app starts. It looks for traces of root (the “su” program, a root management app such as Magisk or SuperSU), but also for other signs of a modified system: an unofficial ROM, or certain installed apps, such as tools that modify other apps. A single one of these signs is enough. Its result is kept until the app is fully closed, and the check runs again at the next start.
At startup, an alert also warns you that your device presents a security risk. You close it, and the app stays usable.
What to do
- Use an unmodified phone. That's what the app recommends. On a phone where the check finds none of these signs, the banner doesn't appear and the challenge sheet is no longer blocked by this check.
- Restart the app if you've removed the root or the app at issue: close it completely, then reopen it. The check runs again when it starts.
- No setting to avoid it. Neither the app nor your account offers a setting that turns this check off: it's about the phone.
