How you're notified
When your opponent cancels, you immediately receive three notifications:
- Push notification in the app: "Your opponent canceled their bet on [event]. 10,000 KTK have been returned to you."
- Email (if you've enabled it) with the details.
- In-app notification in the notification center with the full history.
The cancellation is synchronous - there's no delay. If Mamadou taps "Cancel" at 14:30:15, you're notified at 14:30:16.
Your KTK are refunded 100%
Your KTK immediately leave escrow and return to your available balance. No deduction. No commission. You don't have to do anything - it's automatic.
In the bet's history, the status changes from "Matched" to "Canceled by opponent". You can find this history in My bets → History.
During the pool phase (a window of a few minutes before the event closes), no user-side cancellation is possible - not for you, not for your opponent. If your opponent cancels, it's necessarily before or after the pool phase, never during.
Why the penalty doesn't go to you
Many bettors ask us about this. The 10-20% penalty Mamadou paid to cancel doesn't go into your wallet. It goes to the Ktkarena guarantee fund.
Why this choice? Three reasons:
1. Anti-collusion. If you received your opponent's penalty, it would create a perverse incentive: you could make strategic bets with an accomplice who cancels "strategically" to transfer money to you.
2. Simplicity. The penalty is treated as a "system fee", not as compensation between players.
3. Robustness of the guarantee fund. The fund covers exceptional cases (technical bug, a bettor's default, detected fraud). The stronger the fund, the safer the platform for everyone.
Your options to move forward
When your opponent has canceled, you've recovered your KTK and the bet is over. You have two choices:
1. Place the same bet again. Make exactly the same stake. The cascade will look for a new opponent - probably someone other than Mamadou, but maybe him again if he comes back to the event (unlikely right after a cancellation).
2. Move on to something else. Stake on another event with the KTK you just got back. You don't have to stay on the abandoned event.
Either option is free. You've lost nothing (except time).
