How are my winnings calculated?

TL;DR

By default, every challenge on a two-outcome event is at ×2 - you put in X, you win 2X minus the commission. If more people take a side on one outcome than the others, we slightly adjust the multiplier to balance the market and make matching easier. The multiplier displayed is the one that applies to your challenge, locked in at confirmation - except on an event with three outcomes or more, where it is only fixed when your challenge joins a lot: before that, it is only an estimate.

The default ×2 multiplier: why it's the backbone

Challenges on Ktkarena follow a simple logic. On an evenly matched challenge, two players stake the same amount on different outcomes. The winner takes both stakes, minus our commission.

Mathematically, that gives a default multiplier of ×2. You stake 1,000 KTK, the pot is 2,000 KTK before commission (so +1,000 KTK gross on top of getting your stake back) - your net winnings then depend on your tier's commission.

The multiplier doesn't need to be computed by a complex engine: it follows naturally from two people staking equal amounts.

When and why the multiplier varies

In some rare cases, the multiplier can differ from ×2. That happens when there's a strong imbalance between the outcomes of an event.

Imagine a heavily lopsided event: Real Madrid against an amateur team. 95% of players stake on Real Madrid. To match the 95% taking the "Real Madrid wins" outcome, the system has to find players on the other outcome. Since there's little supply on the "amateur" outcome, the system can slightly adjust the multiplier: those taking the thinly backed outcome (the risk) get a more favorable multiplier (for example ×2.3 instead of ×2), and those taking the obvious outcome see their multiplier drop (×1.85 instead of ×2).

This adjustment stays limited: the multiplier will never go above ×2.5 or below ×1.7 on Ktkarena. We want to remain a peer-to-peer market, with gaps that always stay modest.

Important. The multiplier displayed at the moment you confirm is locked in for your challenge. If the multiplier changes after your confirmation because of a massive influx on one outcome, your challenge keeps the initial multiplier. On an event with three outcomes or more, it is the forming of the lot that locks your multiplier, not your confirmation.

How to read the multiplier in the app

On every challenge screen, you see three pieces of information:

  1. The current multiplier (for example "×2" or "×2.15"). This is what applies to your challenge if you confirm now (on an event with three outcomes or more, only an estimate until the lot is formed).
  2. The estimated winnings ("+9,000 KTK for a 10,000 KTK stake"). Calculated taking your tier's commission into account.
  3. Recent movement (rare, but shown for heavily imbalanced events): "Multiplier stable" or "Multiplier rising" if the market is moving.

The multiplier is displayed large, right below the name of your chosen outcome. You can't miss it.

Indicative pool multiplier

During the event, an indicative pool multiplier is calculated in real time from the residuals waiting on each outcome. It's an estimate of the multiplier you'd get if your residual switched to the pool phase. The final pool multiplier (locked at the pool phase) may differ slightly depending on who enters the pool and who is refunded.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

No. Once your challenge is confirmed, the multiplier is locked. If you confirm at ×2.05 and the multiplier rises to ×2.10 after your challenge, you stay at ×2.05. On an event with three outcomes or more, however, your multiplier is only fixed when the lot is formed: it can differ from the estimate shown when you confirm.

Probably because the market is slightly imbalanced on your outcome (more demand than supply on the other side). It's a sign that your outcome is the "favorite" according to other players.

No. We believe multiplier transparency matters more than marketing. No "multiplier of the day", no welcome bonuses that distort the multipliers. Just a clear P2P market.
