How is escrow released after a challenge?

The moment of truth

The event you took a side on has just ended. Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-1. What exactly happens between that final whistle and the moment your KTK balance goes up?

Two stages: first the resolution (who won?), then the settlement, done in the same operation as the resolution. The first can take time; the second is immediate.

The 3 resolution modes

The Terms (Article 7.7) provide for three resolution modes: AUTO, SEMI-AUTO and MANUAL. Here's what the system does in each.

Mode 1 - AUTO (automatic resolution)

Mostly for events on a public figure read at a set date: an exchange rate, an economic indicator, the weather, an audience count.

How it works:

1. The system reads the figure from the sources set for the event.
2. If they agree, the event is resolved automatically.
3. If they disagree, or stay silent, nothing is resolved automatically: an administrator decides.

Mode 2 - SEMI-AUTO (the default mode)

In particular for matches and for events mirrored from a prediction market.

How it works:

1. The system queries its sources and draws a suggestion from them, with a confidence level.
2. At 95% or more, the event is resolved automatically, unless it is flagged for review (a sensitive topic such as politics or crypto, more than 5 million KTK at stake, more than 1,000 players).
3. Below 95%, with no usable result, in case of a draw or if the event is flagged, an administrator decides.

Mode 3 - MANUAL (resolution by an administrator)

For events no source can verify automatically, and for those with more than two outcomes.

How it works: no automatic resolution. An administrator designates the winning outcome.

What the app shows you before you start your challenge

The event page shows the date the result is expected and, when available, the source that will be used to verify it (“View source”).

No resolution time is guaranteed. The system starts checking once the result is supposed to be available; with no usable answer, it tries again at growing intervals (from 15 minutes to 4 hours), then hands over to an administrator.

Traceability

The Terms (Article 7.7) provide that every resolution leaves a timestamped technical record. The system records, among other things:

• The sources queried, their answer and their confidence level.
• The outcome retained, and whether it was retained automatically or by an administrator.
• The administrator who validated, if any.
• The timestamp of each step.

In the app, the event page shows the outcome retained and, when available, the verification source.

What happens after the resolution?

At the moment of resolution, in the same operation:

1. The winner receives the pot (both stakes), minus the commission.
2. The commission is collected by Ktkarena (based on the tier).
3. The loser sees the loss recorded in their history.

Every player with a challenge on the event then receives a notification with the result, in the app and by push.
