First: you haven't been charged
When a transaction shows the FAILED status on Ktkarena, it means no money was moved. The system treats the transaction as if it never existed:
- Your Ktkarena balance is unchanged.
- Your Mobile Money account / card / wallet is unchanged.
- No commission is taken.
- No permanent record is created (except in the technical audit log for analysis).
So you can retry the transaction immediately, no waiting, no need to contact anyone.
The 5 main causes of failure
Cause 1 - Insufficient balance on the provider's side (40% of cases)
Your Mobile Money account, bank card, or wallet didn't have the necessary funds at the time of the transaction.
What to do: top up your Mobile Money / use another card / add funds to your wallet, then retry.
Cause 2 - Expired or incorrect Mobile Money code (25% of cases)
The Mobile Money validation code you entered is no longer valid (usually because the 60-second window expired) or you made a typing error.
What to do: retry the transaction and enter the new code faster.
Cause 3 - Mobile Money limit reached (15% of cases)
Mobile Money operators enforce daily limits (often 1,000,000 FCFA per day depending on your KYC status). If you've already made other operations during the day, you may have hit that limit.
What to do: wait until the next day or use another payment method.
Cause 4 - Bank card declined by the bank (10% of cases)
Your bank declined the transaction. Several possible reasons:
- Online payment limit reached.
- International payments disabled.
- Card flagged as suspicious by your bank.
- 3D Secure not completed.
What to do: contact your bank to understand the reason for the decline.
Cause 5 - Technical issue on Ktkarena's side (10% of cases)
Rarer: a temporary bug in our system, ongoing maintenance, or an issue with one of our providers (Stripe, Yellow Card, etc.).
What to do: check our status page then retry in a few minutes.
Important. If the failure is caused by an issue on Ktkarena's side (cause 5), we notify you clearly with an explicit message. You don't have to guess.
The special case: “FAILED” but charged by your operator
You see “FAILED” on Ktkarena, but you received a debit SMS from your Mobile Money operator. It's rare (less than 1% of failures) but it happens.
Why it happens:
The debit went through on the Mobile Money side, but the confirmation never reached Ktkarena (network issue, timeout). As a result, we treat the transaction as failed.
What to do:
- Wait 30 minutes. In 80% of cases, the confirmation arrives late and your balance is credited automatically.
- If nothing after 30 minutes, go to Wallet → History → Report a missing deposit.
- Enter your Mobile Money transaction number (found in the SMS).
- Our team finds the payment in the operator's API and credits your balance within 4 hours on business days.
You will not lose your money. In every case, either we credit you automatically or we refund you via your operator. No one keeps the money in between.
How to avoid failures
Before a large deposit
- Check your Mobile Money balance or your card limit.
- Make sure online payments are enabled on your card.
- Avoid peak hours (evenings 7pm-10pm).
Before a withdrawal
- Check that your payment method is still active (card not expired, valid Mobile Money number).
- Make sure you've completed your KYC (required for your first withdrawal).
